HISTORIC AMERICAN LANDSCAPES SURVEY

Volunteers Needed for Wisconsin’s Historic American Landscapes Survey
The Wisconsin Chapter of the ASLA is assisting in inventorying and documenting worthy sites of landscape significance for the Historic American Landscapes Survey (HALS). Numerous sites have been identified, but assistance is needed in providing basic documentation.

At present we are only looking for brief information such as the following: exact location and address, a statement of significance, a limited description of the property, a few lines describing the site’s history, and some written sources that refer to the property. After this phase is completed more detailed information, including graphics and photographs, will be prepared for the most important sites.
Anyone who is interested in participating should contact Prof. Arnold (Arne) Alanen, who has been designed at the “First District Officer for Wisconsin” as part of the HALS program. He may be contacted at any of the following:
